Eating Disorder Treatment

  • Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other.

I’ll map out what dietetic treatment will look like over our time working together and answer any questions or concerns you have.

We will discuss what led you to seek support, your current eating habits and any health concerns.

This session is focused on understanding your unique experiences and challenges and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.

Together we start to form a treatment plan tailored to you.

  • Absolutely not. The process of introducing new foods or working through food fears is gradual and done at your own pace.

You are in control of the process and we work together to build confidence in trying new things when you feel ready.

My role is to support and guide you, not to push or pressure you into changes you’re not comfortable with.

  • Your comfort is a priority and there’s no obligation to focus on weight if it’s not helpful or necessary for your treatment.

We emphasise a holistic view of health that isn’t tied to numbers on the scale.

In cases where weight restoration is medically necessary, we’ll have open and respectful conversations about it, always keeping your well-being in mind.

  • You don’t need a formal diagnosis to seek help. If you’re experiencing challenges with food or your relationship with your body, that’s enough reason to reach out.

My aim is to provide support and understanding, no matter where you are on your journey.

  • The frequency of appointments depends on your unique needs and circumstances. Generally, sessions start more frequently, such as weekly or fortnightly and gradually reduce as you build confidence and skills.

This approach ensures you have the support you need early on while moving towards greater independence over time.

  • Navigating unsupportive relationships can be challenging. During our sessions, we can talk about strategies to manage conversations with loved ones and explore ways to build a supportive network.

You deserve a space where your experiences are validated and we’ll work together to find the support that works best for you.

  • It’s normal to feel hesitant about change, especially if certain eating patterns have become coping mechanisms.

Recovery isn’t an all-or-nothing process and I’m here to support you at your own pace. Together, we’ll work on small, manageable steps that align with your readiness and comfort.

Referral & Rebates

  • No, you don’t need a referral to book an appointment with a dietitian. However, if you’re seeking Medicare rebates through an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) or other care plans, you’ll need a referral from your GP.

  • If you’re eligible for the Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) through Medicare, you can access up to 20 dietitian sessions per year with a rebate.

Your GP will need to provide a referral and set up a care plan, which outlines the support you’ll receive.

The rebate amount depends on Medicare guidelines which, at the moment is $60.35 per session.

  • Eligibility for the Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) depends on certain criteria, such as a diagnosis of an eating disorder and the severity of the condition.

Your GP will assess your situation and determine if you meet the criteria. If you’re unsure how to approach this, we can guide you on how to discuss it with your GP.

  • Yes, if you don’t qualify for the Eating Disorder Plan, there are other avenues for support.

You may be eligible for rebates through other Medicare plans, private health insurance, or NDIS funding, depending on your situation.

We’re happy to discuss these options with you and find a solution that works for you.

  • At Dietility, we aim to provide high-quality and personalised care, which is why we don’t offer bulk billing services.

Our longer appointment times allow us to give you the attention and support you deserve without feeling rushed.

We believe this approach is essential for creating a safe and meaningful space for your recovery.

  • If you’re facing financial hardship, we encourage you to reach out to us by phone.

We understand that accessing support can be challenging, and we’re open to discussing options that may be available to you.
